A Mythological Sweet from Nobeoka

Yabure Manju is a traditional Japanese confection (wagashi) originating from Nobeoka City in Miyazaki Prefecture, with a history spanning over 400 years.

he shape of the manju is inspired by the Ogatama fruit.According to Japanese mythology, when the sun goddess Amaterasu hid in a cave, the goddess of mirth, Ame-no-Uzume-no-Mikoto, performed a legendary dance to lure her out. She is said to have held a branch of the Ogatama tree during this divine performance.

Yabure Manju

he Name "Yabure" means "torn" or "broken" because its steamed outer skin is so thin that the sweet red bean (azuki) paste inside peeks through, making it look as if the skin has naturally torn.

Kaze-no-Kashi Torahiko continues to produce this specialty using traditional methods.
